Stunning Elden Ring Cutscene Discovered Four Years After Release

After a huge expansion and a whole spinoff game, you might think there’s nothing left to uncover in the world of Elden Ring. Players have spent years digging through game files for hidden lore and piecing together cut content from this dark, expansive RPG. Yet here we are in 2026, still stumbling upon fresh, unseen material tucked away in FromSoftware’s acclaimed title.

This latest find comes from Soulslike expert Lance McDonald, known for his significant discoveries like the cut alpha maps from Bloodborne. This time, he’s delving into an unused map file related to the Haligtree location, where players typically encounter the infamous sword master, Malenia. For those who are deep into the lore, the Haligtree was planted by Miquella in hopes of replacing the Erdtree, the dominant entity of the land. The DLC further explores Miquella’s ambition to reshape the world, culminating in a confrontation with him.

The narrative unfolds under the pretense of Miquella trying to save his twin sister Malenia from a devastating rot infestation. Much of this story is pieced together by players through item descriptions. Interestingly, it seems FromSoftware initially planned to make these connections more explicit. In the cutscene McDonald showcases, we witness Miquella actually planting the Haligtree.

This brief yet haunting scene depicts a bleeding sapling taking root as the Empyrean demigod dedicates the Haligtree to his sister. It was meant to play right after acquiring a medallion key that unlocks the Haligtree area. “My last drop of dew,” the cursed twin declares. “Let all things flourish, whether graceful or malign. If thou covetest the throne, impress my vision upon thine heart, in the new world of thine making.”

It’s a beautifully melancholic moment that arguably surpasses some of the video exposition included in the game. Instead, Elden Ring opts for a more subtle storytelling approach, allowing players to interpret the lore themselves. To FromSoftware’s credit, this reliance on imagination is likely a key reason the story resonates so deeply. Whether this cutscene was intentionally left out for narrative reasons or due to production constraints remains a mystery.

Players are both puzzled and fascinated by this recent revelation.

“Imagine having to cut something that good,” one commenter noted on YouTube.

“Honestly, this would’ve been a better cutscene than the DLC ending cutscene,” another remarked.

Shadow of the Erdtree will delve into the enigmatic demigod.
