Cyberpunk 2077 Set to Reach New Heights with Upcoming PS5 Pro Update

Players have been eagerly anticipating a PlayStation 5 Pro patch for Cyberpunk 2077 since the console’s launch in 2024, and CD Projekt Red has finally delivered.

Announced on Tuesday and available just a day later on April 8, the PS5 Pro patch for Cyberpunk 2077 introduces ray tracing, PSSR AI upscaling support, and new graphics modes that allow for a more tailored visual experience compared to the standard consoles. The update features “BVH8 (8-way Bounding Volume Hierarchy) support to implement ray-traced lighting, shadows, and reflections, bringing the lighting even closer to our artistic vision for this world,” as noted by the studio.

The open-world RPG will now offer two new graphics modes on PS5 Pro. The first, Ray Tracing Pro, enhances lighting and reflections while maintaining 30FPS under normal conditions or up to 40FPS on displays with variable refresh rates. A standard ray-tracing mode will provide some visual upgrades while achieving 60FPS. Lastly, a performance mode allows Cyberpunk 2077 to reach up to 90FPS on VRR displays.

Originally released in 2020, the game is part of the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium library, allowing subscribers to play it at no extra cost, though it often goes on sale and is worth owning outright. However, some fans are still hoping for features like FOV sliders on console and mod support. While those requests seem unlikely, the arrival of a PS5 Pro update nearly two years after the console’s debut was also unexpected.

For those who haven’t yet picked up a PS5 Pro, the recent price increase to $900 suggests it might be wiser to hold off until the PS6 to experience the ultimate version of Cyberpunk 2077 on console.
