Meta Launches Muse Spark, Its Latest AI Model
Meta Superintelligence Labs is rolling out its first AI model since Mark Zuckerberg invested heavily in revamping the company’s AI initiatives. Named Muse Spark, this model is now integrated into the Meta AI app and website in the US, with plans to expand its presence in WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Meta’s smart glasses in the coming weeks, along with a rollout in other countries.
Similar to Google Gemini, which seamlessly fits into Google’s ecosystem, Muse Spark is designed specifically for Meta’s platforms. This model marks the beginning of a new series and will be available to select partners in a private preview through the API. Meta promises enhanced performance with the ability to run multiple AI sub-agents for quicker and more efficient query handling, along with support for multimodal input that combines text and images. This feature is particularly relevant for Meta’s AI-powered camera glasses, which the company sees as a key part of the future of computing. Users can switch between a speedy “Instant” mode and a more deliberative “Thinking” mode, akin to options like Microsoft’s Think Deeper.
Muse Spark is also capable of tackling “complex questions in science, math, and health.” The use of AI in health-related chatbots has sparked debate recently due to concerns over sensitive data and misinformation. Meta claims that Muse Spark’s multimodal capabilities are “especially valuable for health,” allowing it to provide detailed responses to health inquiries, including those that involve images and charts. This positions Meta to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT Health and Anthropic’s Claude for Healthcare, both of which launched earlier this year. In its announcement, Meta showcased its chatbot estimating the calorie count of a meal, a common yet often unreliable application of AI technology.
Looking ahead, Meta envisions Muse Spark powering new features that will reference recommendations and content shared across Instagram, Facebook, and Threads. The company also mentioned that it is developing larger models and aims to open-source future iterations. Muse Spark is described as an “early data point” in the evolution of the new Muse series.
The Muse series represents Meta’s second significant venture into advanced AI, following the Llama models. Zuckerberg revamped the company’s AI strategy after the delayed and underwhelming launch of Llama 4 in 2025.
