Xbox Achievements Set for a Much-Needed Revamp
Xbox was the pioneer in bringing in-game achievements to the forefront, but the allure of Gamerscores has waned over time. A much-needed update is on the way, led by new head Asha Sharma, aimed at revitalizing the experience based on player feedback.
This update is currently being tested with Xbox Insiders before it becomes available to all users, featuring three key enhancements. First up are revamped animations and icons for achievement notifications, making them more visually appealing. Next, players will have the option to hide specific games from their achievements list. Lastly, a new feature will showcase all the games where players have achieved 100-percent completion, preventing them from getting lost among other titles.
This is particularly beneficial for those who dive into numerous Game Pass games and want to keep their achievement list organized and manageable. These thoughtful adjustments are sure to please dedicated Xbox fans, although they may not be enough to shift the platform’s overall momentum on their own.
Achievements thrive on the social prestige they offer, which is closely linked to the overall atmosphere of a gaming platform. Back in the Xbox 360 era, Gamerscore was the gold standard. However, with the rise of the PlayStation 5, Sony’s trophy system has overshadowed it somewhat. One advantage Xbox Achievements still hold is their ability to earn Xbox points, which can be exchanged for real cash in the Xbox store—a feature that Sony has yet to replicate effectively.
“We established a dedicated team to focus on fan feedback,” Asha Sharma shared on X. “Here are a few Achievements updates rolling out today, with more on the way.”
