Rockstar Games Faces Hack Threatening Major Data Leak Unless Ransom is Paid

Rockstar Games is facing more trouble as the hacker group ShinyHunters claims to have infiltrated the company’s secure cloud servers, reportedly acquiring a significant amount of data. They are demanding a digital ransom to be paid by April 14, threatening to leak the information if their demands are not met.

According to reports, the group announced on their dark web leak site that they had accessed Rockstar’s Snowflake servers, which are used by many large companies for cloud hosting. Their message included a stark warning:

“Rockstar Games, your Snowflake instances were compromised thanks to Anodot.com. Pay or leak. This is a final warning to reach out by 14 Apr 2026 before we leak, along with several annoying (digital) problems that’ll come your way. Make the right decision, don’t be the next headline.”

Interestingly, the hackers did not breach Snowflake’s security directly. Instead, they reportedly accessed the data through Anodot, a service that helps companies monitor and analyze cloud costs. Anodot has recently experienced a security breach, which may have allowed ShinyHunters to exploit this vulnerability to access secure Snowflake data. The method they used likely appeared legitimate to Rockstar, suggesting they now possess a wealth of information.

While ShinyHunters has not disclosed the specific data they have, it is believed they do not have access to passwords or personal player information. The focus of this hack seems to be on corporate data, which could encompass contracts, financial documents, marketing strategies, and other sensitive materials that Rockstar would prefer to keep under wraps.

Rockstar Games has not yet confirmed or denied the breach. ShinyHunters has been active since 2020, targeting major corporations, with previous victims including Microsoft, Ticketmaster, Cisco, AT&T, and Wattpad. Their history suggests they are serious about their claims regarding Rockstar.

In 2022, Rockstar Games experienced a notorious hack that resulted in early gameplay footage and assets for GTA 6 being leaked online. That incident was executed by a teenager who gained access to the company’s Slack chat service. The individual was later sentenced to a secure hospital prison and will only be released if deemed no longer a threat to society.
