Tesla’s Full Self-Driving System Gets First European Approval in the Netherlands
Dutch regulators, the RDW, have officially given the green light to Tesla’s Full-Self Driving (FSD) Supervised after more than a year and a half of testing. This makes the Netherlands the first country in Europe to allow FSD on its roads, potentially paving the way for broader adoption across the EU. With Tesla’s European headquarters based in Amsterdam, it’s fitting that the nation is leading the charge in embracing this technology.
In their announcement, the RDW emphasized that “Using driver assistance systems correctly makes a positive contribution to road safety because the driver is supported in their driving tasks; it is a supplement to the driver. Through continuous strict monitoring of the driver in the vehicle, the system is safer than other driver assistance systems.”
The update for FSD Supervised (version 2026.3.6) is now being rolled out to a select group of users. Before activating self-driving features, drivers must complete a tutorial and pass a quiz, reinforcing the message that FSD Supervised “does not make your vehicle autonomous. Do not become complacent.”
While Tesla’s FSD has encountered some hurdles in the US, including a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that could result in a recall, it has also recently concluded another investigation.
