Uncertainty Surrounds Potential Venom Video Game Amid Conflicting Reports for Spider-Man Fans
While Insomniac Games hasn’t officially confirmed a Venom video game, fans of the Marvel’s Spider-Man series are left speculating about its existence or possible cancellation, especially after mixed messages from Miles Morales actor Nadji Jeter and a well-known reporter.
The idea of a Venom game surfaced in the 2023 Insomniac leaks, but no formal announcement has come from Insomniac or Sony Interactive Entertainment. In a recent interview on the Love it Film podcast, Jeter mentioned that a Venom project was scrapped after Tony Todd, who voiced the character in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, passed away from stomach cancer in 2024.
Jeter initially spoke about a Venom game and DLC but later emphasized that Insomniac was indeed developing a full game featuring Venom, claiming he had seen how it was set to begin.
This revelation sparked significant chatter among the Spider-Man community on platforms like Reddit and ResetEra. In response, some individuals, including a developer from Allfather Productions and reporter Jason Schreier, asserted that the game had not been canceled.
Schreier, known for his accurate reporting on PlayStation matters, directly stated, “This isn’t true” in a ResetEra thread discussing Jeter’s comments. We’ve reached out to him for more details and will provide updates as they come.
This situation has left Marvel’s Spider-Man fans in a state of uncertainty regarding future developments. A Venom spin-off seemed likely after the launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and the earlier leaks, yet there has been no official word on it for over two years. The conflicting statements from Jeter, who has a connection to the games, and Schreier, a trusted journalist, only add to the confusion about whether a Venom game is still in the works or has been shelved.
While the status of a potential Venom game remains ambiguous, we do know that Insomniac’s next superhero title, Marvel’s Wolverine, is set to launch exclusively for PlayStation 5 on September 15.
