Resident Evil Requiem Developers Urge Players to Complete the Game Before DLC Launch

One of the most anticipated games of 2026 is set to expand even further. In a recent interview, the director and producer of Resident Evil Requiem shared exciting insights about the upcoming expansions. The first of these, a combat-focused mini-game, is nearing completion.

We already knew that Requiem would introduce a new mini-game in May, leading up to a story expansion later in the year. However, this interview suggests that the mini-game could launch in early May.

“This mini-game is content that unlocks after finishing the main story,” the producer noted. “So, if you’re planning to dive in, completing the main story during Golden Week would be perfect timing to jump into it.”

Golden Week this year runs from April 29 to May 6, a popular time in Japan for family vacations and school trips, making it an ideal period for gaming. If the developers are encouraging players to finish the game during this time, it hints that the mini-game will be available shortly after May 6.

According to the director and producer, challenging battles will be a key feature of the upcoming mini-game.

“For those who have completed the main story and are thinking, ‘I still want more fun!’ I think you’ll be able to enjoy this and go ‘Whoa!!,’ so get ready,” the director mentioned.

Both Resident Evil Village and the Resident Evil 4 remake introduced the beloved Mercenaries mode shortly after their releases, so a similar mode for Requiem seems likely. Mercenaries is an arcade-style action mode where players aim to defeat as many enemies as possible within a set time limit. Previous versions have included various unlockable characters and stages, and some required a completed game save file.

The interview also touched on the ongoing intrigue surrounding Leon’s apparent wedding ring in the game’s conclusion. The director confirmed that the story behind the ring will be revealed eventually, but “that ‘eventually’ isn’t now.” He added, “I initially thought this was just to show Leon’s growth over time, and that the identity of his partner wasn’t crucial to the end of Requiem, but I guess that’s not entirely accurate.”

Whether we’ll have to wait for Requiem’s story DLC or a future Resident Evil game to uncover more about Leon’s romantic life remains to be seen.
