s&box, the Successor to Garry’s Mod, Launches on Steam with Mixed Reviews Amidst AI Content Surge
How do you tackle the influx of user-generated content in a world flooded with AI-generated clutter? Why did some players recently score a free otter backpack in Final Fantasy 14? And today’s major Arc Raiders update unintentionally disrupted a key feature. Here’s your daily gaming checkpoint for April 28, 2026. While everyone is poking fun at the $100 price tag of Valve’s Steam controller, what about shelling out $65 for just a single button?
The Keychron Q0 Mini 8K Action Key is a standalone mechanical switch priced at $65. It offers endless possibilities for fun and stress relief while enhancing your daily productivity. Think of it as the Pomodoro Technique tailored for gamers.
Described as a “game creation platform built on the Source 2 engine,” s&box resembles a blend of Garry’s Mod and Roblox. One player noted, “The foundation is solid; it just needs support for dedicated servers and Steam Workshop integration.” Another player was less impressed, calling s&box “an unfinished mess that doesn’t measure up to modern engines or true game platforms.”
There are also claims that this game-as-creation-platform is becoming cluttered with low-effort AI content. Facepunch founder Garry Newman acknowledged the complaints and mentioned that the team is working on enhancements, including promoting quality player-generated content to overshadow the generative AI junk.
“Low-quality, obviously AI-generated content is going to be a growing issue across all creative fields,” he stated. “We don’t endorse using AI for creativity or game development. However, we recognize its value as a learning and productivity tool. We’ll take steps to elevate human creativity and minimize the visibility of AI-generated content.”
“I believe companies should leverage AI to assist people rather than replace them,” he added during a recent Q&A about his upcoming game, The Blood of Dawnwalker. Rebel Wolves, the studio behind this RPG, initially used AI for voice work during script development but later decided to remove it. A spokesperson emphasized that the final game will not include any AI-generated elements.
“I want to make it absolutely clear: nothing in The Blood of Dawnwalker was created using generative AI,” they reportedly stated. “Nothing. This game was crafted entirely by people from start to finish.”
RE2 director Hideki Kamiya confirmed the origin of the horror thriller’s protagonist’s name 28 years later. It indeed comes from the Luc Besson film Léon: The Professionals, featuring Jean Reno. “I’m surprised by all the reactions to Leon’s naming… Didn’t I mention it…? It’s not a secret, and I would’ve answered if asked,” Kamiya shared on X. “During development, I consulted with Mikami-san about naming the protagonist. After a few ideas were shot down, I suggested, ‘How about we take it from that movie I watched the other day?’ and proposed ‘Leon,’ to which he agreed.”
In other news, Neill recently shared some good health news. “I’ve just had a scan, and there’s no cancer in my body. This is incredible,” he told 7News. “Science at its best.” His recovery is attributed to a cutting-edge CAR T-cell therapy treatment. He expressed eagerness to return to acting, as long as they don’t de-age him again like in a recent Super Bowl commercial. Meanwhile, you can catch him discussing his impressive plum harvest from last summer.
Fans are both puzzled and delighted by a recent surprise in the game. Unfortunately, it turns out to be a bug. “Upon investigating this issue, we confirmed that during data configuration, the internal ID for the ‘Senor Otter pack’ was mistakenly set to the same ID as the ‘Black Embroidered Parasol,’” stated a notice on the MMO’s forum page. “As a result, if you’ve already obtained the ‘Black Embroidered Parasol,’ you can also use the ‘Senior Otter pack.’”
The free-to-play RPG looter shooter has already launched on iOS and Android, and now it’s undergoing a technical test on PC ahead of its full launch in August during season 2.
The developers are aware of the issue and are working on a hotfix.
Maybe, according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. “You never know,” he remarked at this week’s gaming event in Las Vegas. “Broadly speaking, we’re exploring future opportunities with all of our intellectual properties, but there’s nothing to announce at this time.”
