Now’s the Perfect Moment to Dive Back into One of 2025’s Top Games
Blue Prince, the acclaimed strategy roguelike designed for puzzle enthusiasts, has been around for over a year. However, for many players, the ideal time to dive in is now.
The game has just received a significant accessibility update aimed at addressing some of the major gameplay concerns, particularly the absence of colorblind accessibility features and controller remapping options. Update 1.7 introduces Color Assist in the Accessibility menu, allowing players to enhance puzzle colors, add patterns for better differentiation, and even utilize a color labeler that identifies colors directly.
This is a fantastic addition, especially the labeler! It’s a bit frustrating that it took over a year to implement. Blue Prince launched on April 10 last year, and it’s surprising that a game with essential puzzles relying on color interpretation didn’t initially cater to colorblind players or include pattern overlays sooner while the team focused on other updates. Many who wanted to experience Blue Prince last year found it challenging. Hopefully, this update opens the door for them.
Additionally, developer Dogubomb has introduced button remapping for both controllers and keyboards—another feature that should have been there from the start—along with options to adjust cursor opacity, style, and size. There’s also a toggle for autorun, allowing players to move at a decent pace without holding down a button, and motion assist settings to help reduce motion sickness.
You can find the complete list of changes, including various bug fixes, in the update notes. Patch 1.7 is now live on Steam and will soon be available on other platforms pending approvals.
This isn’t the final major update for Blue Prince. Creator Tonda Ros has teased a significant “final update” in version 1.10, which will introduce the missing arcade game Digiblocks, a cat, additional cinematics, and more. This accessibility update addresses a substantial portion of what Ros promised to enhance in Blue Prince before moving on, bringing him closer to wrapping up a game that can feel endless.
Blue Prince is a fantastic experience, so if you tried it last year and understandably stepped back due to visibility issues, I highly recommend revisiting the manor now. It offers either a delightful 20-hour puzzle adventure or a mind-bending 100+ hour challenge that will keep you on your toes. I fall into the latter category of puzzle enthusiasts, and it was one of my favorite games last year.
And trust me, come prepared with a blank notebook. You’ll wish you had if you don’t!
