Leon and Chris Are Missing from the Latest Resident Evil Movie Trailer
The next live-action take on the Resident Evil franchise is set to hit theaters this year, directed by Zach Cregger, known for his work on Weapons and Barbarian. This new film appears to carve its own path, diverging from the game adaptations fans might expect. The first trailer showcases a horde of zombies and other unsettling creatures, but don’t expect to see familiar faces like Leon Kennedy or Chris Redfield.
The story centers around a character named Bryan, portrayed by Austin Abrams from Euphoria and Weapons. Bryan is having a rough night as a medical courier, and he’s anxious about his partner amidst the chaos unfolding around him. While this isn’t a direct adaptation of any specific Resident Evil game, viewers will see Bryan engaging in classic Resident Evil activities, such as scavenging for supplies to fend off zombies and looting keys from fallen foes.
Resident Evil is set to premiere in theaters on September 18, just a month before the live-action reboot of Street Fighter arrives on October 16. If both films deliver, Capcom could be poised to make a significant impact in both the gaming and film worlds this year, especially following the success of titles like Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem. Now, if only they could find a way to erase that bizarre incest storyline from Street Fighter 6 from everyone’s memory.
