New MAPPA Animation Unveils Jujutsu Kaisen Sequel’s Final Volume

Gege Akutami’s *Jujutsu Kaisen* is an expansive battle shōnen that, despite concluding on a somewhat satisfying note, leaves plenty of room for more stories in its dark fantasy universe. Enter *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo*, a well-received spin-off that is set to release its third and final volume on May 1. To celebrate this milestone, animation studio MAPPA, known for its work on the first three seasons of the anime, has unveiled a special promotional video for the concluding volume.

The official *Jujutsu Kaisen* X/Twitter account shared this exciting promo, which is also available on Shonen Jump’s YouTube channel. The animation is stunning and fluid, perfectly capturing Akutami’s intricate art style in *Modulo*. Directed and storyboarded by Shun Miyagawa, who previously contributed to *Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc*, the promo features Sota Yamazaki (from *Weathering With You*) as the chief animation director. Be sure to check it out, but watch out for manga spoilers if you want to keep your *Modulo* experience intact.

*Modulo* is set 68 years after the events of *Jujutsu Kaisen*, where the foundational rules of jujutsu society have evolved, and the Golden Age of sorcery has passed. Technology now plays a significant role in sorcery, marking a departure from traditional views. While classic cursed spirits have vanished, the world is inhabited by the Simurians, an alien race capable of generating their own unique cursed energy.

This raises the question: can Simurians coexist with the new generation of jujutsu sorcerers? And what role does series protagonist Yuji Itadori play in this new landscape? *Modulo* expands Akutami’s captivating universe, providing a unique opportunity to explore fresh themes and challenges within a familiar setting.

While this video serves as a promotional piece for the final *Modulo* volume, it also acts as a potential indicator for an anime adaptation in the future. The *Jujutsu Kaisen* anime is far from finished, having recently concluded Part 1 of the Culling Game arc in its third season, with a fourth season on the horizon. Although an adaptation of *Modulo* isn’t guaranteed, MAPPA is well-suited to continue its impressive artistic interpretation of Akutami’s rich source material. From what we’ve seen so far, a potential *Modulo* anime could strike a balance between depth and spectacle, much like *Jujutsu Kaisen* has achieved.

As we eagerly await more news, there’s plenty of time to dive into the intricate storytelling of *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo*, showcasing some of Akutami’s finest writing in the series.
