Dreame Expands Beyond Vacuums with New Smartphone Launch

Dreame, a Chinese company primarily known for its robot vacuums, is venturing into the smartphone arena, though skepticism surrounds its ambitions. At a recent event in California, the company showcased two smartphones that had already been unveiled in China back in March. However, neither device has officially launched in any market yet, and details on their specifications remain sparse.

The Aurora Nex LS1 stands out as the more intriguing option, albeit with a touch of skepticism regarding its feasibility. This modular smartphone features a magnetic attachment point where the rear camera typically resides. Dreame has introduced five different modules for this spot: a triple camera boasting a 1-inch-type sensor and a 115mm equivalent telephoto lens, an action camera, a fan, a satellite communications module, and a “Smart Agent Module.” While modular phone designs aren’t new, this approach is reminiscent of a concept shown by another brand at MWC this year. However, Dreame seems to suggest that the Nex LS1 is a tangible product set for release.

The second device, the Aurora Lux, is a bit misleading to label as a single phone. Instead, it represents a series of distinct designs, each exuding a bold sense of luxury. Some models are wrapped in leather, while others sport gold plating or are adorned with gemstones. One version even features an analog clock integrated into the rear camera area. Although many share a circular camera design, others diverge significantly, with cameras either flush against the back or separated by a Pixel-style camera bar. Dreame claims to have 29 different versions of the Aurora Lux, a number so high that it raises doubts about the company’s ability to produce them all.

Dreame has also touted impressive camera features, including a 200-megapixel sensor and support for Lofic, a new HDR processing technology currently seen only on select high-end devices. However, it remains unclear which phone these specifications pertain to, and it would be surprising if Dreame truly aims to compete with established brands like Apple and Samsung right out of the gate.

Both smartphones are expected to run on Dreame’s proprietary Aurora AIOS, which is described as an operating system focused on proactive service rather than passive responses—essentially an Android skin enhanced with AI features.

While Dreame has not disclosed specific launch dates or locations for the phones, it has indicated that AIOS will debut in the latter half of 2026. This suggests that the first Dreame hardware could arrive around the same time.

The phones were just one highlight of a diverse launch event that also showcased a rocket-powered electric car, a laundry robot, and a TV with moving speakers. Clearly, Dreame is aiming high with its ambitious projects.
