This gadget lets you attach a Steam Controller to your phone or nearly any device.

Valve’s latest Steam Controller is set to hit the market on Monday for $99, and accessories brand Mechanism is gearing up for the launch. Mechanism’s new Basegrip is the first accessory designed to attach the Steam Controller to your phone, alongside a range of other products, including mounts for securing handhelds and gamepads to the Ikea Skadis pegboard or virtually anywhere else. The Steam Controller mount will be available on the same day as the controller, thanks to Valve granting Mechanism early access to the design.

When you pair the Basegrip with Mechanism’s phone mount, you can use the Steam Controller to remotely control your PC via the Steam Link streaming app. However, Mechanism points out that “the controller doesn’t work across all of iOS or Android yet.” Based on my own experience with iOS, there are some compatibility issues, so while the Steam Controller with a Mechanism Basegrip and mount is a promising option, it may not be the ultimate solution for mobile gaming just yet. That said, I did manage to play games using the Steam Controller with the Steam Link iOS app without any major hiccups.

Mechanism is also launching a waitlist for a Steam Controller dock that holds the controller at an angle. While the Steam Controller comes with a magnetic charging puck that typically lays flat, Mechanism’s dock is designed to be “perfectly weighted for your controller lifting pleasure” and aims to elegantly display, charge, and connect your Steam Controller. The dock is expected to launch in June 2026.

In keeping with its tradition, Mechanism will provide free files for those interested in 3D printing their own versions of the Basegrip and a simplified dock. Previously, Valve utilized several of Mechanism’s mounts—formerly known as Deckmate—to create the Steam Deck-filled orb that now resides in the company’s lobby, the same orb that Kojima recently took a selfie with.
