Microsoft trials revamped Windows 11 Run menu featuring dark mode and additional enhancements.
Microsoft is currently rolling out a much-anticipated update to the Windows 11 Run menu, introducing a sleek new interface that promises improved speed and dark mode support. This redesign is now available to Windows 11 Insiders in the Experimental Channel.
In a recent blog post detailing the update, Microsoft revealed that the “Browse” button, which provided a shortcut to user files, has been removed due to its low usage. Instead, a new “~” command has been added, directing users straight to their user directory.
The revamped Run menu is built using code from the Command Palette, a feature found in PowerToys that allows for quick command execution, website access, file searches, and more. Insiders can activate the new Run menu by navigating to Settings > System > Advanced and toggling the option on. An initial version of this redesigned menu began appearing in preview builds last year.
According to Microsoft, they have worked closely with partners across the platform to ensure that these UI elements load quickly. The enhancements made to the platform not only speed up the Run menu but also contribute to the overall efficiency of the operating system.
