Apple increases the starting price of the Mac Mini.
Apple has adjusted the starting price of its Mac Mini to $799, following the removal of the previous $599 model that featured 256GB of storage. This change comes right after Apple CEO Tim Cook mentioned during an earnings call that a chip shortage is expected to affect Mac products in the near future.
Cook noted that by June, many of the supply constraints will be focused on several Mac models, including the Mac Mini and Mac Studio, which may take months to stabilize in terms of supply and demand. He also highlighted that both devices have experienced “higher-than-expected demand,” particularly as users are integrating them with AI applications like OpenClaw.
The ongoing global memory shortage is another hurdle for Apple, with Cook indicating that the company anticipates “significantly higher memory costs” ahead, which could increasingly impact its operations. Consequently, the lowest-priced Mac Mini now features 512GB of storage and is powered by Apple’s M4 processor. As the AI-driven RAM shortage continues to affect suppliers worldwide, many manufacturers are either raising product prices or discontinuing certain models altogether. Apple previously stopped selling its Mac Studio with 512GB of RAM in March and has also increased the starting prices for its new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models.
