Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Expands PS5 Roster with Two New Avengers

The excitement for the spiritual successor to Marvel vs. Capcom ramped up this weekend at EVO Japan, where Sony and developer Arc Systems unveiled two new fighters for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, and they’re likely familiar faces.

Joining the roster are Savage Hulk and Shuri as Black Panther, rounding out the Avengers’ lineup in the game’s initial 20-character selection. The Savage Hulk is a result of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Captain America exiling him to the Savage Land due to his “overwhelming power and instability.” This explains his dinosaur bone armor. In gameplay, Hulk will feature a Gamma Gauge that players can fill during matches to activate Gamma Rage mode, unleashing devastating one-hit attacks.

On the other hand, Shuri has recently taken on the Black Panther mantle and ascended to the throne of Wakanda. Unlike Hulk, she’ll be quick and nimble, utilizing the Spear of Bashenga for long-range attacks. Her moves will include a Bast’s Blessing mode, allowing her to dash in multiple directions to close gaps quickly. While I’m not entirely sold on their costumes, it’s likely that customizable skins, possibly for purchase, will be available.

With Captain America and Iron Man already on board, the Avengers side of the Marvel Tokon roster is now complete. The Guardians and X-Men teams are also set, leaving several villains still to be revealed among the final six characters. Doctor Doom is confirmed, but heavy hitters like Thanos, Apocalypse, and Carnage remain possibilities. The teaser trailer has fans speculating about the inclusion of the Cletus Kasady/Symbiote duo.

Additionally, Marvel Tokon will introduce four extra characters through DLC, launching on August 6, right after Spider-Man: Brand New Day and before Avengers: Doomsday. It’ll be interesting to see if the upcoming reveals connect to these major releases.
