Lego Unveils New Sega Genesis Retro Console Set

Sega and The Lego Group are joining forces to create a Lego version of the iconic Sega Genesis, also known as the Mega Drive in other regions. This new set offers two options for fans of retro gaming: the North American Sega Genesis and the international Sega Mega Drive. Additionally, it features a hidden nod to Sonic the Hedgehog.

The Lego Sega Genesis Console is a 479-piece set that comes with two detachable three-button controllers, a removable game cartridge, and sticker decorations, including a Sonic the Hedgehog portrait as a fun Easter egg.

In a nostalgic touch, the packaging for the Lego Sega Genesis Console is designed to look retro, complete with a scuffed and worn appearance reminiscent of a vintage console you might find on eBay.

This isn’t the first time Sega and Lego have collaborated; they’ve previously released Sonic the Hedgehog Lego sets, including one that brought the beloved Green Hill Zone to life in brick form. Lego has also introduced more detailed Sonic sets featuring characters like Tails, Amy Rose, and Dr. Robotnik. In 2025, they launched a set based on the original three-button controller of the Sega Genesis, which included a mini-recreation of Green Hill Zone.

Lego has a solid track record of transforming classic gaming consoles into Lego sets, having previously released versions of the Nintendo Entertainment System, Game Boy, Atari 2600, and even a Pac-Man arcade cabinet. Rumors suggest that a Lego PlayStation set may be on the horizon later this year.

The Lego Sega Genesis Console (#40926) is set to launch on June 1, priced at $39.99, and is available for pre-order.
