Fallout Co-Creator Expresses Concern Over Gamers’ Independent Thinking

Have influencers turned gamers into followers? Is Silksong really getting DLC this month? And how did the director of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy manage to complete his next game 40 times? It’s your gaming roundup for May 4, 2026, as we celebrate Star Wars Day by reminiscing about our favorite moments from Andor. I’d love to binge the entire series again, but I fear it might dampen my excitement for Mando and Starfighter. Maybe I’ll just dive back into Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO instead.

Tim Cain recently discussed how social media, Twitch, and YouTube have transformed game design in a video. He noted that some developers now create moments with the live online audience in mind, but he also pointed out that algorithms heavily influence how gamers perceive and decide on games.

“Now we’re in the 2020s, and many gamers don’t even look to influencers for reviews,” he stated. “They look to influencers to be told how to think about the games. So, people don’t form opinions from the online video. They’re handed an opinion from the online channel they’re watching.”

Cain argued that nuanced opinions, like “this game has less combat and more puzzles and dialogues,” get simplified to phrases like “this game is stupid and slow-paced and made for casuals.” With less time and more games than ever, players often seek quick takes over in-depth analysis.

On the upside, he explained, this allows people to find opinions from those they generally agree with, giving them a quick sense of how they might feel about a game. “But the downside is that more and more people seem to be giving up their own judgment to that of people they see online,” Cain added. “It’s like, ‘I don’t want to think about it; you tell me what I should think about it.’”

Refurbished versions of the console available directly from the company have seen a price increase of $100 to match the recent hikes for new units. The older consoles didn’t cost more to manufacture, but buyers will now face a premium.

While the game hasn’t been officially revealed yet, Square Enix’s Naoki Hamaguchi shared with an outlet that he’s already completed it multiple times. “We’re very excited about how the game is currently progressing,” he said in a recent interview. “I have already completed over 40 full playthroughs! I can’t wait for as many people as possible to experience the game for themselves, and my team and I are working hard to create an unforgettable gameplay experience.”

That’s according to a YouTuber who recently claimed to have received confirmation that the Halo 2 and Halo 3 remakes are definitely in the works. “Active development is underway,” he said. The first remake in the trilogy, Halo: Campaign Evolved, is expected to launch as early as this summer.

You can catch a condensed, four-minute version of the film’s opening sequence on a streaming service today ahead of the movie’s May 22 release.

Directed by Greta Gerwig, the adaptation of the sixth book in C.S. Lewis’ fantasy series will hit IMAX in February 2027, followed by a streaming release that April. This is a delay from its originally planned 2026 debut, but this year’s blockbuster movie calendar is already packed.
