Star Wars Actor Hints at the Deep Bond Between Maul and Devon in Shadow Lord Season 2

Star Wars enthusiasts have been captivated for ten episodes of *Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord*, following the ex-Sith Lord Darth Maul (voiced by Sam Witwer) as he attempts to rebuild his criminal empire and recruit Devon Izara (Gideon Adlon) as his apprentice. The intense two-part finale delivered a shocking and brutal conclusion, forever altering the dynamic between Maul and Devon. An interview with Adlon sheds light on the evolving connection between the former Sith and the Jedi Padawan.

Throughout the first season, the relationship between Maul and Devon has undergone significant transformation. Initially, Devon harbored justified doubts about Maul’s motives, but as the story progressed, she began to confront her own anger and pride in the Zabrak warrior.

A crucial factor in keeping Devon from succumbing to Maul’s manipulations has been her Jedi Master, Eeko-Dio Daki (Dennis Haysbert). Although Devon felt the pull of Maul’s ideology, Daki served as a grounding presence, reminding her of the teachings of the old Jedi Republic and steering her away from her darker impulses.

Tragically, with Daki’s death at the hands of Darth Vader, that positive influence is lost, making Devon’s eventual alignment with Maul seem inevitable. “I think that anybody who goes through loss like that, the path they walk on after that brings out new colors,” Adlon reflects in a Star Wars blog interview.

Daki’s death not only transforms Devon personally but also significantly impacts her relationship with Maul, a development that is likely to play a pivotal role in the upcoming season 2 of *Maul – Shadow Lord*.

Familial bonds, whether by blood or not, have always been a central theme in Star Wars, from Luke Skywalker’s ties to Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru to Leia Organa’s connection with Bail and Breha Organa. Adlon hints that Maul and Devon’s relationship will explore similar themes, though it won’t be characterized by warmth or affection.

“Devon relates to Maul in a way that she wasn’t able to with Daki or the Jedi Order. Even though they never say it, she does find a father figure in Maul,” Adlon explains. “It’s not love. It’s something I’m trying to figure out with her. And I will.”
