Game Changer’s Kickstarter for their board game has launched and quickly surpassed $1 million in funding.
Get ready to dive into a new gaming experience with Game Changer, where you can be a contestant right from your living room. Recently, a streaming service launched a Kickstarter for a home board game adaptation of its hit show, and backers have already pledged over $1 million, smashing the initial $40,000 goal.
This at-home edition was revealed last month, designed to capture the wild fun of the flagship show for your next game night. It features variations of three popular games from the series: Bingo, Name a Number, and Sam Says. The trailer provides insights into how these games have been transformed into a board game format. In a humorous exchange, Dimension 20 DM Brennan Lee Mulligan jokes with the CEO about the rules of Bingo, referencing a memorable episode that left him bewildered. The Kickstarter page also details how each game operates.
There are multiple versions available, along with various add-ons and rewards for backers. For just $19, you can snag the Sam Says Sampler Edition, which offers a taste of the full game with about half the rules and prompt cards.
A $39 pledge secures the complete Game Changer Home Edition, packed with everything needed to enjoy its mischievous gameplay. A discounted $59 Kickstarter bundle (down from a planned retail price of $89) includes two extra decks for more prompts and a Kickstarter Medal. For $159 (discounted from $189), the Game Changer: Ultimate Home Edition gives you the full game, all available expansion decks, and several extras, including the Medal. There are also various smaller add-on items available, such as a Game Changer: Home Edition T-shirt, a wooden hourglass for timing, keychains, a playmat, and card sleeves.
As with many Kickstarter campaigns, there are exclusive rewards for higher-tier backers. For a $300 pledge, you can receive a script book from season 8 along with the Ultimate Home Edition. A $500 pledge gets you a personalized message from the CEO. A limited $1,000 tier offers a prop from seasons 7 or 8, but this tier is currently sold out. Initially limited to 10 backers, it expanded to 20 after selling out, so keep an eye out if you want to grab a Game Changer prop.
The campaign aims to engage the community throughout its duration. Instead of the typical model of unlocking new rewards at different funding milestones, this Kickstarter encourages backers to complete daily community challenges to unlock rewards. The first challenges include reaching the minimum funding goal (already achieved), having 250 players comment with a haiku, and getting 250 people to add #SamsUnpaidIntern to their Kickstarter names.
For full details, check out the campaign page. The campaign wraps up on June 6 at 12:00 AM EDT, giving you a month to decide if you want to back it. According to the FAQ, the game will only be available through Kickstarter for now, with no plans for wholesale retail distribution, and the company won’t know if or when it will be sold in their store until after the campaign concludes.
