Threads Introduces Direct Messaging Feature for Web Users
Almost a year after launching direct messaging on mobile, Meta is finally bringing this feature to the web. Currently in the testing phase, the company plans to roll out web DMs to a wider audience soon.
On the web DM page, users can access their inbox and message requests. Similar to the mobile experience, you can choose to receive DMs from everyone or just those you follow. Additionally, Meta is looking to introduce group chats on the web, which are already available on mobile, and is working on enhancing user controls.
According to Threads lead Connor Hayes, while engaging in public conversations is great, many users enjoy private chats in DMs. Web DMs have been the top request since the mobile messaging launch, and Hayes points out that “Our most engaged users spend time on the web because they’re at their desks, fully engaged, using Threads for longer periods.”
Threads has also begun testing a revamped design for the web platform.
