AirPods Max 2 Now Available with a $40 Discount

When it comes to pricing, the original AirPods Max held onto their premium tag long after launch, making them a tough sell compared to the Bose QC Ultra or Sony’s XM series unless you were a dedicated Apple fan. The AirPods Max 2, however, have been available for just over a month, and we’re already spotting a $40 price drop at various retailers, bringing them down to $509 in all five color options.

The Max 2 are a genuine sequel, unlike the refreshed version Apple released in 2024. These new over-ear headphones retain the same 40-millimeter drivers as their predecessor but now come equipped with a new high dynamic range amplifier, enhancing bass response and overall sound quality. They also support lossless audio at 24-bit / 48kHz through USB-C and maintain a premium build with aluminum, stainless steel, and knit mesh fabric. Weighing in at 385 grams, they feel substantial, which is a plus for high-end headphones.

The standout upgrade in the AirPods Max 2 is Apple’s H2 chip. Although it first appeared in the second-gen AirPods Pro in 2022, it brings a wealth of features that the original Max lacked. The Max 2 now support adaptive audio, conversation awareness, personalized volume, voice isolation, and live translation, along with automatic device switching, spatial audio, and all the ecosystem perks you expect from Apple headphones. Plus, their active noise cancellation has improved, ensuring you can fully immerse yourself in your favorite tunes without outside distractions.

More noteworthy deals include:

* Logitech’s new Powerplay 2 mousepad is on sale for $89.99, a $10 discount, marking the first price drop we’ve seen. While the second-gen model makes some compromises to hit this price point, it still offers continuous wireless charging for select Logitech mice. Just keep in mind that it doesn’t come with a built-in wireless mouse receiver or a USB-C cable this time around.
* Fellow is hosting a Mother’s Day sale until May 10th, offering discounts on their range of coffee gadgets. The Aiden Precision Coffee Maker is available for $339.95, a $60 savings, and the Stagg EKG Pro Electric Kettle is priced at $152.95, down $27. Both are excellent choices, but I personally prefer the Fellow kettle for my daily pour-over routine.
* The Echo Dot Max, Amazon’s compact smart speaker, is matching its lowest price ever at $74.99, a $25 discount. This model features improved hardware compared to previous versions, including a separate tweeter and woofer for better sound quality. It also supports Matter and Thread, making it a versatile smart home hub for connecting to any Alexa-compatible Matter or Zigbee devices in your home.
