A Unique Method to Access YouTube on the Switch 2
Did you know that even with the impressive game lineup for the Nintendo Switch 2, featuring titles like Pokémon Pokopia, Mario Kart World, and Donkey Kong Bananza, there’s still no native YouTube app available?
The demand for it is evident from the numerous social media posts calling for its release, but there’s an unconventional workaround that might just do the trick. While it has its limitations, it’s free, so if you’re eager to catch some YouTube content on your Switch 2, it’s worth trying out.
A Reddit user named JampyL found that the multiplayer indie game Super Animal Royale includes a scrolling feed of various information, such as news and related videos, right on its main menu. By selecting one of the videos and opting for the “watch on YouTube” feature, you’ll be redirected to an external browser. From there, you can search for any YouTube videos you want to watch on your Nintendo Switch 2.
However, there are a few downsides. For starters, videos can only be viewed in full screen, meaning you can’t browse comments while watching. Additionally, the video quality is capped at 360p, which is decent in handheld mode but looks pretty rough when docked. Lastly, the YouTube webpage may not load correctly; you might encounter missing thumbnails and logos, but clicking on specific videos should work just fine.
Will YouTube eventually make its way to the Nintendo Switch 2? It seems likely since the app is available on the original Switch. A few months back, the TeamYouTube X account mentioned that it was “scheduled to become available soon,” but that post was later deleted, suggesting they might have jumped the gun or been mistaken. And once you’re done with your YouTube fix, consider diving into Super Animal Royale. This 2D cartoon battle royale supports up to 64 players, and despite being on a different platform, it currently boasts “very positive” reviews on Steam, indicating a warm reception.
