The Sims 4 Is Set to Improve Baby Gameplay Features
Maxis is finally giving The Sims 4 a much-needed revamp for babies, toddlers, and children, introducing features like Sims picking up dirty diapers and eliminating the frustrating cycle of repeatedly picking up and putting down infants.
This overhaul is part of a comprehensive update set to roll out on May 12, which includes over 150 fixes and new features, many focused on the younger Sims. The changes were largely driven by player feedback from recent polls, with Maxis prioritizing the most requested fixes.
Among the highly anticipated updates are several that may seem trivial but will significantly enhance gameplay. For example, the fix for Sims who endlessly pick up infants will make managing them much smoother. Additionally, Sims will now automatically pick up dirty diapers after changing an infant, rather than leaving them on the floor. Various infant interactions have also been adjusted: feeding and changing will be quicker, hunger will decrease at a slower rate, and Tummy Time progression will speed up. This is a big deal, as infants have often felt out of sync with the game’s pace, making basic tasks feel overly time-consuming.
There’s also a new toggle that allows players to take full control of baby care, preventing Sims from autonomously checking on infants unnecessarily. Many players have noted that Sims would frequently check on babies without addressing their needs, which could be frustrating. This feature will let players directly command their Sims to take care of the baby, ensuring they stay focused on the task at hand.
But the updates don’t stop at babies. A new Base Layer feature will expand clothing options, allowing players to dress their Sims in a base layer like a long-sleeve shirt or tank top, with additional outfits layered on top. Sleeping interactions are also getting an upgrade, ensuring that Sims in relationships can actually sleep together without confusion. Plus, the issue of jealous Sims getting upset over their partners interacting with their own children is being addressed.
While many of these fixes may seem minor individually, collectively they represent a significant improvement, especially for families in The Sims 4. Building families is a core part of the game, and these updates aim to alleviate the little annoyances that have made managing younger Sims a hassle. The full list of updates will be available on May 12, and Maxis is also looking into other major issues related to saves and performance that the community has raised.
