Cody Rhodes Receives Cease and Desist from Nintendo Over His Boots
Cody Rhodes stands out as one of the top talents in professional wrestling and currently holds the title of WWE Undisputed Champion. However, even he isn’t immune to the vigilant scrutiny of Nintendo’s extensive legal team. After he incorporated the Triforce symbol from The Legend of Zelda into his wrestling boots, Rhodes revealed that he received a “kind” cease and desist from Nintendo requesting its removal.
In a recent episode of a podcast, Rhodes discussed the Triforce logo he briefly showcased on his wrestling boots back in 2013. He shared that his admiration for Zelda and other Nintendo franchises went beyond fandom; he felt that the “principles” embodied by the Triforce resonated with his wrestling persona.
“I thought the principles of the Triforce, which are power, courage, and wisdom… were just applicable,” Rhodes explained. “And for those who don’t know, Zelda’s the wise one.”
He elaborated, “Obviously, Link is the one who’s got the courage, and power is Ganon. They make up the three parts of the Triforce. That’s the whole deal. And I just liked the idea of thinking and leaning towards your own wisdom or what you’ve learned and applying it. Of being ambitious and wanting to, you know, seek or be powerful.”
While his reasoning seems sound, it ultimately didn’t sway Nintendo, who were not pleased with Rhodes featuring the Triforce on his boots.
