Unlock the Wakemaker in Subnautica 2 for a speed boost in your underwater adventures!
One of your primary objectives in Subnautica 2 is to develop new technology that enhances your swimming speed and extends your underwater time. The Wakemaker is your first significant upgrade in this area, following the acquisition of an oxygen tank and flippers, but figuring out how to obtain it can be a bit tricky.
Similar to other tools and technologies, like the Sonic Resonator for mining large ore deposits, you’ll need to locate and scan the Wakemaker fragments in various spots to unlock its blueprint. However, unlike the Sonic Resonator, you can’t find all the Wakemaker fragments in one place.
To unlock the Wakemaker as a craftable blueprint, you must scan three fragments. Here are the locations I’ve discovered so far, which I demonstrate how to access in the video above:
After scanning enough Wakemaker parts, head back to an upgraded Fabricator (the one you’ve built, not the one in the Lifepod) to craft the Wakemaker using:
As you can see, crafting the Wakemaker requires you to gather a few materials first. Wiring kits are electronic components made from silver and copper wire. Additionally, basic batteries, which are essential for recharging the Wakemaker, require two copper and an Acidic Raion Pouch. Finally, you’ll need one Lucifer Rotsac to create grease.
Once you’ve built your Wakemaker, equip it from your hotbar, and the twin fans will enhance your movement speed while swimming. While it may not match the speed of the Tadpole, it’s a significant upgrade that allows you to dive deeper and navigate faster. Just remember to carry a backup battery in case it runs out of power, leaving you stranded at the ocean’s depths.
It’s also a good idea to set up a battery recharge station so you can replenish your dead battery when it runs out and swap it out when you return to base.
