Unlocking and Constructing Rooms in Subnautica 2: A Guide
Curious about why your initial base in Subnautica 2 feels like a maze of corridors? Before you can start constructing actual rooms in this underwater survival adventure, you’ll need to unlock the room recipe, which can be a significant hurdle early in the game. After all, you’ll need ample space for your facilities, especially if you’re planning to add larger structures like a Tadpole moonpool for your vehicles.
The ‘Room’ structure is quite adaptable. You can expand your base by placing multiple rooms side by side and even trim them down to achieve the perfect dimensions, provided you’ve got the Habitat Builder unlocked.
From what I’ve discovered, there are two main methods to unlock the basic ‘Room’ structure blueprint:
Fortunately, there’s a spot where you can do both and snag the High Capacity Air Tank recipe at the same time. This area is located a bit deeper, so it’s wise to craft the Standard Air Tank, gather some Air Bladders, and perhaps even make the Wavemaker to help you navigate more quickly.
As highlighted in the video:
This location is somewhat deep, so it could be challenging if your oxygen supply is low. Alternatively, you might consider scanning a Processor instead; there’s one located in the Old Habitat about 350 meters north of the Life Pod. NOA will actually guide you here if you continue tracking down the black boxes, so it might be worth holding off until then.
There are additional rooms to unlock, like the stunning “Half Round Room,” which features a panoramic window on one side, so keep an eye out for recipe data cards while exploring colony ruins.
