Unlocking the Angel Comb: A Guide to Achieving Heat Tolerance Adaptation in Subnautica 2

Clearing your first Angel Comb in Subnautica 2 is a multi-step quest where you navigate through various chambers, eliminating viral blooms to revive a sickly undersea flower. The Angel Combs provide valuable Adaptations, with the first one offering Heat Tolerance, allowing you to safely explore the lava vent area without the risk of underwater combustion.

As you delve deeper into Subnautica 2, you’ll encounter several Angel Combs afflicted by viral blooms. These sealed pods contain Adaptations, like the one that helps you digest food early in the game, enhancing your ability to survive in increasingly hostile environments.

The initial Angel Comb you can heal is located 200 meters northwest of the Lifepod, roughly at 300 degrees on the compass, tucked away in a cave. This particular Angel Comb holds the crucial Heat Tolerance Adaptation, essential for progressing in the story, especially when investigating the Tadpole Pens and collecting resources like gold.

To clear an Angel Comb, follow the large tubes leading from the central chamber until you reach the areas with viral growths. Expect murky water, and be prepared for flower growths and aggressive larvae-like fish that will attack as you approach. Use the Sonic Resonator to blast each flower and eliminate the threat.

I suggest charging up and using the Dash ability to quickly close the gap and take out each flower, as the worms will cease their attacks once the flowers are destroyed.

There are two such chambers to clear, after which you’ll need to return to the central chamber housing the comb itself. If you find your oxygen running low during this process, look for funnels obstructed by Bloom Sap; you can clear these with your Survival Multitool to replenish your oxygen supply.

The central chamber poses a greater challenge due to the presence of predatory fish patrolling the area. To manage this, throw a distraction flare to divert their attention, then swiftly blast the flowers around the room.

Once you’ve cleared the area, the Angel Comb will unlock, allowing you to claim the Heat Tolerance Adaptation by interacting with it. With this new ability, you can confidently venture into the lava zone without the fear of melting.
