Fujifilm’s X Half Gets a Playful $300 Price Drop
Fujifilm’s X Half digital camera isn’t meant to take the place of your primary shooter, even if its initial $850 price tag might suggest otherwise. Recently, the MSRP dropped to $649.99, and there’s an extra $100 off until June 28th. This brings the X Half down to about $549 at various retailers. Adorama is matching this price and sweetening the deal with a free accessory pack that includes a 64GB SanDisk SD card and a camera case.
The X Half stands out from typical digital cameras. It’s a minimalist shooter designed to mimic the experience of using a half-frame film camera, capable of capturing 18-megapixel stills that you can customize in various ways. You can apply film simulations, filters, and grain effects. It even allows for digital diptychs, with the option to imprint the date on your photos. While it’s a blast to use, it does lack some features you might expect from modern cameras, such as RAW image capture, a hot shoe for accessories, and an electronic viewfinder.
In our hands-on review from last year, a former supervising producer noted that the X Half is both whimsical and refreshing. With its vertical 1-inch sensor and fixed 32mm equivalent f/2.8 lens, it can take impressive shots, all while being designed for point-and-shoot ease. Users enjoyed snapping “scrappy, quick photos” with it, although some were initially put off by the original price.
