Unlocking the Bioscanner in Subnautica 2: A Quick Guide

The Bioscanner is a crucial late-game enhancement for your Scanner in Subnautica 2, allowing you to scan marine life and unlock new Biomods. It’s best to acquire it as soon as possible since the scans won’t retroactively apply to creatures you’ve already cataloged.

To get started, you need to reach the Alien Ruins area, which you can access after completing the task at the Tadpole Pens and navigating across a vast stretch of ocean. I also suggest picking up the Depth Module for the Tadpole, enabling you to explore this region without succumbing to the crushing pressure of the deep sea.

To unlock the Bioscanner upgrade, make your way to the Cicada wreckage, located 130 degrees southeast of the Alien Ruins Research Outpost, about 500 meters away. If you haven’t yet received the objective to find Iso’s blackbox (you need to complete Ruby’s second blackbox first), it may feel like you’re heading into the void, but keep going, and you’ll soon spot alien structures and the Cicada wreck.

Upon reaching the wreckage, enter through the open hatch on the eastern side. You can repair the door to exit from the bottom, but it’s simpler to retrace your steps. There’s also a Modification Station to scan at the top, which you’ll need, although one is available at the Alien Ruins Research Station as well.

Since the Bioscanner is an upgrade to the standard Scanner, you’ll need to return to your base and construct a Modification Station. For this, gather the following materials:

To craft the Bioscanner upgrade, you’ll need:

The Bioscanner allows you to scan marine life, and if you visit a Bio Lab, you’ll be able to view a variety of active and passive Biomods that you can unlock by scanning different creatures, including the Collector Leviathan. Good luck!
