New Lanterns Trailer Unveils the Green Lantern Powers Fans Have Been Eagerly Anticipating
We found out that a new trailer for Lanterns is set to drop on May 18, and the teaser hints at something DC Comics enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating.
James Gunn shared a sneak peek of the series on his Bluesky and Instagram on May 17, stating, “Danger is part of the job. New #Lanterns teaser tomorrow.” Although the clip is silent, it features Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart leaping over a car, while Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan conjures a massive green shield to deflect a laser beam descending from space.
This second clip is especially exciting as it showcases Hal’s powers in action beyond just flying. The initial trailer for the HBO series framed it as a more grounded crime drama, which sparked some debate due to the limited display of the iconic green constructs that Green Lanterns are famous for. This teaser, along with what we hope to see in the full trailer, promises more dynamic action featuring those abilities.
Moreover, a recent interview indicates that the conflict highlighted in the first trailer is merely a fraction of the broader narrative. In a conversation with an outlet, showrunner Chris Mundy confirmed that the series will explore the cosmic aspects of Green Lantern lore and mentioned that the story unfolds across two different time periods.
So far, we’ve primarily seen footage from 2016, where Hal and John are investigating an alien-related shooting in the small town of Rushville. Another segment of Lanterns will be set in 2026, following the events of Superman, but the specifics of that storyline remain under wraps. We’re hoping the upcoming trailer will provide more insight into the 2026 plot.
We’ll keep you posted tomorrow when the full trailer is released. If you prefer to avoid spoilers, it might be best to hold off on watching the trailer and wait for the series to premiere weekly on HBO and HBO Max starting August 16.
