A surprising cowboy co-op shooter is climbing the Steam charts.

Far Far West, the multiplayer co-op FPS set in a cowboy-themed universe (or cowbot, since you play as a robot), has impressively surpassed one million sales on Steam within just two weeks of its early access launch. This achievement is particularly notable given the stiff competition from major titles like Subnautica 2, Forza Horizon 6, and Pragmata released around the same time.

The game’s concurrent player count has also been impressive, peaking at over 47,000, according to SteamDB. As of now, it ranks 18th on the bestsellers list, outpacing popular games like Slay the Spire 2 and Battlefield 6, and sitting just behind Crimson Desert.

With an “overwhelmingly positive” review score on Steam, it’s hard to argue against the praise after spending over 20 hours in the game since its launch. Far Far West feels remarkably polished for an early access title; while the quest and collectible content may start to feel limited after completion, the game is feature-rich and could easily stand as a full release, complete with the seasonal support typical in the industry.

For fans of titles like Deep Rock Galactic or Helldivers 2, Far Far West offers a blend of both experiences. It features expansive maps filled with undead skeletons as enemies and a plethora of weapons and magic spells to experiment with. The game even incorporates roguelite elements through jokers, which provide run-specific buffs. With the right combinations, players can become incredibly powerful, unlocking abilities like triple jump and triple dash to soar across the map.

The game embraces a lighthearted tone, and as noted by a gaming commentator, the variability in mission lengths—shorter ones or longer challenges depending on difficulty and collectible hunting—adds to its replayability.
