Sony May Stop Launching Major Single-Player PlayStation Titles on PC
Sony appears to be shifting gears when it comes to releasing its major PlayStation 5 single-player titles on PC, starting with games like Ghost of Yōtei and Saros.
According to a report from a journalist, during a recent town hall, PlayStation studio business CEO Hermen Hulst informed staff that future first-party single-player narrative games will remain exclusive to PlayStation. This aligns with earlier reports indicating that while online titles such as Marathon and Marvel Tokon will still be available on multiple platforms, single-player experiences like Ghost of Yōtei and Saros will not see PC releases, nor will any future titles in this category.
Despite speculation about this change for some time, it marks a significant departure from Sony’s previous approach, which seemed to embrace a more open strategy regarding exclusives. In recent years, several major PlayStation titles, including Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, and Days Gone, have made their way to PC. Additionally, Helldivers 2 has launched on Xbox, and Lego Horizon Adventures is available on the Nintendo Switch. However, the success of these cross-platform releases has varied, with analysts suggesting that the staggered launches have dampened demand.
Looking ahead at Sony’s upcoming game roster, it seems unlikely that titles like Marvel’s Wolverine or Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will make their way to PC, even after some time post-launch, if this trend continues. While multiplayer games like Fairgames are expected to be multi-platform, and Kena: Scars of Kosmor has already been confirmed for PC, it appears that Sony is firmly stepping back from its multi-platform strategy as Xbox continues to embrace both PC and console gaming.
