Every Pokémon Has Its Fans, Even the Least Popular Ones—Here’s the Evidence!
With over a thousand Pokémon in existence, it’s no surprise that not all of them are fan favorites. Some designs might make you cringe, while others simply lack excitement. When was the last time you thought about Dewpider or Seaking? Or even the unassuming Taillow?
Let’s take a moment to appreciate every Pokémon, because it turns out that each one has its own dedicated fanbase, and a new website is here to celebrate that.
Introducing “Every Pokémon is someone’s favorite,” a platform where you can name a Pokémon, share a few words about why it holds a special place in your heart, and contribute to a growing collection of love for both the well-known and the obscure. Launched just yesterday, this site is already outpacing even the most popular events in showcasing individual Pokémon appreciation, with over 55,000 heartfelt declarations for all 1,025 Pokémon—yes, every single one has at least one fan! You can browse stats and read the notes for each Pokémon, or hit the “Explore” button to discover a random declaration for a random Pokémon.
The notes shared are genuinely heartwarming. Some are nostalgic, like this one for Unown: “I adore how useless Unown are in battles. They’re also the cutest things ever, and their quirky essence resonated with my isolated soul as a child who barely knew any English. I may not have understood the game’s words, but I knew I loved Unown.”
Others are lighthearted, such as this one for Gible: “He’s just a hungry fella,” or for Wailord: “Big whale cute.”
The stats page reveals which Pokémon are currently the most beloved among users. As of now, Gengar leads the pack with 725 declarations, followed by Mimikyu, Bulbasaur, Absol, and Arcanine. Surprisingly, Pikachu doesn’t even make the top 10. You can also check out the least popular Pokémon, including the final five that completed the on-site Pokédex: Arrokuda, Capsakid, Brute Bonnet, Nymble, and Quaxwell. Many of these lesser-known creatures are from the latest games, suggesting that players just need more time to bond with them.
Among the original 151, Goldeen seems to be the least favored, with only four declarations. However, the notes about her are quite touching: “I had the card when I was five, and I thought it was the prettiest,” and “She is beauty, she is grace, she is a transmasc king waiting to flower. I fell in love with her Gen 1 card, and regardless of her in-game stats, I think she’s the best. She reminds me of the goldfish in Fantasia. Anyway, I love Goldeen.”
Currently, 22 Pokémon sit at the bottom with just two declarations, most of which are newer additions. Cascoon is among them, with a charming note that reads, “It reminds me of my mom because it looks like a ball of yarn, and she used to knit a lot. Plus, it evolves into Dustox, who’s pretty cool and looks like (•w•). I named mine Ham Chowder :3.” Another simply states, “Silly little guy.” It’s surprising to see Igglybuff and Maschiff down here, as I thought the latter would have a solid fanbase just for being a dog.
One downside of this index is that it doesn’t differentiate between forms; if it did, I’d be declaring my love for Alolan Raichu right away. For now, I’m off to write a sweet note for Totodile, my favorite chompy buddy, even though he already has plenty of fans. And just a heads up, you can’t choose any of the new starter Pokémon from Winds and Waves. No Pombon for you!
