Don’t overlook Nintendo’s most bizarre game reveal of 2026!
Every now and then, Nintendo pulls off a surprise announcement that’s so subtle, it flies under the radar for many. Enter Pictonico!, a quirky collection of “comically chaotic minigames” that brings to mind the beloved WarioWare series—thanks to the involvement of Intelligent Systems, the same team behind WarioWare.
In Pictonico!, players can “lick lollipops, summon genies, defend against zombies, and more, all featuring the faces of your family and friends,” as Nintendo teases.
This mobile game cleverly utilizes your phone’s built-in camera. While that might sound off-putting at first, the trailer showcases a much more entertaining experience than it may seem. Of course, it helps if you have a group of friends ready to dive into this quirky adventure.
The trailer features a player snapping a photo of someone, which the game then transforms into a face-stretching minigame reminiscent of the classic from Super Mario 64. If you’ve enjoyed using Apple’s Photo Booth with friends or appreciate the quirky humor of games like Tomodachi Life, Pictonico! could be right up your alley. Plus, Nintendo assures players that your photos won’t be used in any way.
One YouTube commenter noted, “This feels like something that would be pre-installed on the 3DS,” while another humorously added, “Close enough, welcome back Face Raiders.”
Pictonico! is set to launch on May 28, but you can pre-register for it now. While Nintendo hasn’t revealed pricing details yet, the official site mentions that the game is free-to-start. For those hesitant to spend money on this unique experience, a demo featuring several minigames will also be available.
With this and the stealthy announcements on the Nintendo Today! app, I’m eagerly anticipating the day Nintendo reveals the Nintendo Switch 3 through PictoChat or something equally unexpected.
