Gemini Unveils Redesigned Model with Enhanced Intelligence

Google is rolling out some exciting enhancements for Gemini at Google I/O, featuring a fresh design language and an upgraded 3.5 Flash model. The new design, dubbed “Neural Expressive,” boasts fluid animations, vibrant colors, updated typography, and haptic feedback. A prominent “Ask Gemini” bar makes it easy to kick off conversations, complemented by a subtle gradient blue at the bottom—because gradients are definitely in vogue.

In addition to the revamped design, Google is integrating Gemini Live, allowing users to engage in real-time voice conversations with Gemini directly within the chat interface. Simply hit the Gemini Live button next to the Ask Gemini bar to switch to Live mode without needing a separate screen. Gemini will provide “tailored responses” that include images, timelines, and videos, moving beyond just text replies.

The Neural Expressive design is set to start rolling out on Tuesday across Android, iOS, and the web.

On the tech side, the Gemini 3.5 Flash model is being highlighted for its agentic and coding capabilities, touted as the company’s most powerful model in these areas. Its “balance of speed and performance” makes it ideal for handling complex, long-term tasks. Starting today, Gemini 3.5 Flash will be the default model in Gemini and AI Mode. This model also powers the newly announced Gemini Spark AI agent for consumers. Additionally, Google is working on Gemini 3.5 Pro, which is expected to launch in June.
