New Open-World Lord of the Rings RPG in Development at Warhorse Studios Alongside Kingdom Come Project
Warhorse Studios, known for their hit Kingdom Come: Deliverance, has announced two intriguing new projects in development.
First up, fans can look forward to a “new Kingdom Come adventure.” While it’s tempting to speculate that this could be Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3, the announcement leaves room for the possibility of a spin-off that might diverge from the series’ RPG roots.
The second project is generating even more buzz, especially for those who haven’t yet experienced a Kingdom Come title. Warhorse Studios is working on an “open-world Middle-earth RPG,” a concept that has fans excited. This idea was hinted at back in March when a translator shared insights on a Polish podcast dedicated to Tolkien, mentioning rumors about the game’s existence. Last October, it was reported that a new Lord of the Rings game was in the works, but details about the developer were limited.
According to a former Warhorse Studios developer, AI technology will be utilized for translations in this project. The earlier report suggested that the game would be a third-person action title aimed at competing with popular games like Hogwarts Legacy, and it’s rumored to have significant backing from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, with funding around $100 million.
The thought of a modern open-world RPG set in Tolkien’s Middle-earth is thrilling, especially for the vast community of Lord of the Rings enthusiasts. Warhorse Studios has expressed eagerness to share more details “when the time is right,” but it seems unlikely that either of these titles will launch before 2026. Fans are hopeful for a teaser or two before the year wraps up.
