Firefox is developing a sleek new design featuring user-friendly privacy and AI controls.

Firefox is set to undergo a significant visual transformation with a revamped Settings section designed to enhance the accessibility of privacy options, including a toggle to disable all current and future AI features. Dubbed “Project Nova,” this redesign is slated for rollout later this year and introduces rounded UI elements, bubble-like tabs, and a refreshed color palette inspired by fire. Mozilla is also updating icons for better visual consistency across both light and dark themes.

While the new design is still on the horizon, Mozilla has rolled out a fresh feature: support for the Web Serial API. This allows websites to control devices or deliver firmware without needing native applications or installers. This new API is part of Firefox 151, which also brings an updated design for the Firefox Home page, new wallpapers, and the ability to merge multiple PDFs in the browser’s PDF viewer.

On the productivity front, the redesign will reintroduce Firefox’s compact mode, streamlining browser controls like the forward and backward buttons. Users will find it easier to access tab groups, split view, and vertical tabs. Project Nova will also enhance customization options, starting with new wallpapers and themes that apply across the entire browser window, featuring both light and dark modes. Mozilla is even looking into controls for the shape of tabs and other UI elements.
