Bungie has no intentions for Destiny 3 and is set to implement major layoffs.

Bungie, the studio known for Destiny 2 and Marathon, is reportedly planning to implement a significant number of layoffs as it wraps up development on Destiny 2 after nearly a decade of support for the live-service shooter.

Sources familiar with the situation indicate that there are no new projects lined up for the Destiny 2 development team once the game concludes next month. Despite some staff members pitching new ideas, including potential expansions within the Destiny universe, none have received approval, meaning Destiny 3 is not in production at this time. Instead, Bungie is shifting focus and resources toward Marathon, which has not met expectations since its early March launch. Current player counts on Steam show both Destiny 2 and Marathon peaking at around 11-12,000 players daily.

Additionally, there were discussions about making Destiny 2 more accessible for newcomers, but studio leadership ultimately decided to cease development on the game. However, Destiny 2 will continue to be playable in the future, similar to how the original Destiny remains available today. The final update will include changes aimed at making Destiny 2 a welcoming environment for returning players.
