Oppo Unveils Bubble: A Circular Display for Rear Camera Selfies
Oppo has introduced a new smartphone accessory designed to enhance your selfie game by utilizing the superior rear cameras, which often boast better sensors than front-facing ones. The Bubble provides functionality similar to the recently unveiled Insta360 Snap, featuring a screen that offers live camera previews for perfect framing, along with remote controls and a shutter button. What distinguishes the Bubble is its sleek design, wireless operation up to nearly 33 feet, though it does come with limited compatibility across devices.
Currently, the Oppo Bubble is available in China for 499 yuan, approximately $73, but there’s no word yet on whether it will be released globally. It sports a round AMOLED touchscreen and a 550mAh battery, all while being just seven millimeters thick. While the company hasn’t disclosed the estimated battery life, it does require charging via a USB-C port located at the bottom, rather than wirelessly when attached to a phone.
Some Oppo devices support wireless charging, but none have built-in magnetic rings for accessory attachment. To use the Bubble with an Oppo phone, you’ll need to equip it with a magnetic case. The screen can also connect directly to devices with embedded magnets, such as iPhones and newer Pixel models. However, the Bubble is only compatible with a select range of Oppo devices, including the Reno 14, 15, and 16, as well as the Find X8, X9, X9 Pro, and X9 Ultra, through a dedicated mobile app. There are currently no plans to broaden its compatibility to other brands.
