Take-Two Shuts Down Another Beloved GTA Roleplay Server

Rage: MP, a community-driven multiplayer mod for Grand Theft Auto V on PC, is set to close down following a request from Take-Two Interactive for an expedited shutdown of the platform. With the recent closure of Alt: V in February, the only remaining option for online GTA roleplay on PC is FiveM, a fan-created platform that is now fully owned by Rockstar Games and Take-Two.

On May 25, the Rage: MP team shared the unfortunate news, confirming the mod’s shutdown in response to Take-Two’s directive. The publisher emphasized that FiveM is the sole “authorized platform” for GTA V multiplayer mods, as specified in the game’s official license agreement. Despite Rage: MP being active since at least 2018, it appears that Take-Two has decided to intervene just months before the anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

In a statement on their official site, the Rage: MP admins said, “We must share an important update about the future of RAGE:MP. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have made it clear that FiveM is the only authorized platform for GTA V multiplayer modding, as defined in their Platform License Agreement (PLA). In accordance with that policy, and at Take-Two’s request, RAGE: MP will begin a structured shutdown process.”

The Rage: MP developers are urging all modders to transition their servers and content to FiveM as soon as possible, with the FiveM team, CFX, reportedly ready to assist in the migration.

“We know this is tough news for everyone — both developers and players,” the Rage: MP team stated. “As FiveM is now Rockstar Games’ official platform for modding-based experiences, we’ve done our best to give you extra time to move your servers to their new home, and we will continue to do everything we can to make the switch over as smooth as possible.”

Effective immediately, no new Rage: MP servers can be launched. The public server list will be taken down on June 1, and the final shutdown of Rage: MP will occur on August 31.

It’s quite surprising to see Take-Two shutting down an online modding tool in 2026 while simultaneously inviting those modders to collaborate on FiveM, a platform they attempted to shut down back in 2015. After recognizing the popularity of FiveM and GTA roleplay, which contributed to increased sales of GTA V, Take-Two not only ceased its pursuit of FiveM but also acquired it and its team in 2023. This integration suggests that FiveM, or a new iteration of it, could be directly linked to GTA 6 when it eventually launches on PC. This may also shed light on the closure of Alt: V, another GTA MP server mod that faced Take-Two’s scrutiny earlier this year.

“All of us have put a huge amount of time and energy into building RAGE: MP,” the developers expressed. “Thank you for being part of this journey and for everything you’ve done to help multiplayer grow. RAGE: MP was always defined more by the community than by the codebase.”
