Google Addresses Concerns from Fitbit Users Over New Health App

In response to a wave of feedback regarding the Google Health app that has taken over from Fitbit, Google is set to implement a series of updates starting this week.

The company is tackling some of the most pressing user concerns, particularly with the Today dashboard, which currently limits health metrics to the top half of the screen. Google plans to enhance customization options for both the Today and Health dashboards, allowing users to rearrange metrics and add or remove them more easily.

Additionally, Google Health will introduce several sought-after features and quality-of-life enhancements. Users will soon be able to view, create, and log custom food items, making it easier to track their dietary habits. The Today and Health tabs will also feature charts for hourly step goals, along with a new 24-hour sleep overview that includes both main sleep and naps.

The AI coach has sparked mixed reactions among users. While some have expressed frustration over having to sift through lengthy AI-generated text to access their health data, others, including some tech commentators, have found the advice and insights to be beneficial.

Upcoming adjustments to the AI-generated messages in the Today tab include:
* Streamlining messages to be more concise while retaining useful details, aiming for a balance between positivity and objectivity.
* Incorporating more visuals such as charts, maps, and quick stats into messages.
* Refining which activities trigger messages from the Coach, leading to less commentary on short walks.

Other notable improvements include:
* Correcting mislabeling of runs that were previously categorized as general workouts (rolling out this week).
* Adding splits to run summaries (also rolling out this week).
* Increasing prompts for user intent before the Coach responds, allowing for more detailed interactions.
* Addressing account migration issues for families, where heads of families cannot migrate their personal accounts without also migrating or deleting their children’s accounts. A solution will be available in June, enabling the deletion of child accounts and unblocking the account migration process.
