Modern Warfare 4 to Launch as the First Call of Duty on Switch 2
This year’s installment of the Call of Duty franchise marks a significant return, as it will be the first title to launch on a Nintendo platform in nearly 13 years. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to drop in October, making its debut on the Nintendo Switch 2, alongside versions for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
The announcement of Modern Warfare 4 was made recently, confirming that this year’s game will not be available on last-gen consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This release fulfills a promise made in 2022 to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo systems.
In December 2022, the then-head of Xbox revealed that Microsoft had committed to a 10-year plan to deliver Call of Duty to Nintendo following the merger with Activision Blizzard King. Microsoft aims to expand access to games for players across various platforms.
Additionally, Microsoft assured that Call of Duty titles would continue to be available on Steam at the same time as their Xbox releases, a move intended to ease concerns from regulators in the U.S., U.K., and E.U. regarding the $68.7 billion merger.
The last Call of Duty game on a Nintendo platform was 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts for the Wii U, and there has never been a title on the Nintendo Switch until now. This will change on October 23, 2026, when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches for PS5, Switch 2, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
