Classic Call of Duty: Black Ops Titles Could Be Making a Comeback

It looks like we might be seeing a rerelease of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, as indicated by recent ratings from South Korea’s game ratings board. These ratings for the original titles, which debuted in 2010 and 2012, have surfaced on the Korea Game Rating and Administration Committee’s site, though specifics about the rereleases are limited.

The ratings for Black Ops and Black Ops 2 don’t clarify which platforms or new features these remastered versions might include. However, they lend credence to ongoing rumors about Black Ops remasters being in the works at Activision. One unconfirmed report suggests that these remasters will feature multiplayer maps, some of which will be updated, and will be available both as a bundle and individually. Additionally, they are expected to launch on various platforms, including the Nintendo Switch 2.

While Activision hasn’t officially announced any plans to remaster the first two Black Ops titles, they have previously revisited a classic entry with 2016’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, which provided a polished update to 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The latest installment in the Black Ops series is 2025’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Despite being a bestseller for Activision and Treyarch, its lukewarm reception prompted the developers to reconsider their strategy for future Call of Duty releases.

With the Xbox Games Showcase approaching, we may not have to wait long to find out more about these Black Ops ratings. Adding a couple of classic, fan-favorite Call of Duty titles would certainly enhance Xbox’s Game Pass lineup, especially since new entries in the franchise are no longer available on day one for Microsoft’s subscription service.

Recently, Activision announced a new Call of Duty title, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, set to launch on October 23. This installment is described as taking place in a “rapidly escalating global conflict centered on the Korean Peninsula,” according to developer Infinity Ward. Modern Warfare 4 will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, marking the first Call of Duty release on a Nintendo platform since 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts for Wii U.
