Lenovo’s Legion Go S gaming handheld now offers great value at $549.

This week, the price of the Steam Deck OLED with 512GB of storage jumped from $549 to $789, making it even less accessible for those eager to grab one after its long absence from shelves. On a brighter note, there’s a solid PC gaming handheld still available at its original price: the Lenovo Legion Go S, currently listed at $549.99, down from $729.99. This deal stands out more now than it would have a year ago.

When the Legion Go S first launched, it didn’t impress us much, largely due to its steep price tag. However, Sean praised its stunning 8-inch 120Hz display and noted that its ergonomics surpass many other gaming handhelds, including the Steam Deck. Still, the performance didn’t quite match Valve’s device in several games, which made the price hard to justify. Additionally, it debuted during a time when navigating Windows 11 in handheld mode was quite frustrating, though things have improved since then.

While we can’t fully endorse the Legion Go S, I’m willing to make an exception given the current market situation. I’d be more inclined to recommend the version equipped with the Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, as we observed performance boosts ranging from 10% to 40% over the Ryzen Z2 model, depending on the game. However, the current price of $1,452.99 on Lenovo’s site is a hard pass.
