Backrooms Rakes in $38 Million on Opening Day
Kane Parsons’ film Backrooms is projected to rake in as much as $90 million during its opening weekend, having already secured $38 million on Friday alone. This figure not only exceeds expectations but also shatters A24’s previous opening weekend record of $25.5 million set by Alex Garland’s Civil War. Additionally, it outperformed The Mandalorian and Grogu, which managed $33.7 million on their opening day, ultimately totaling $81.6 million for the weekend.
With an estimated budget of just $10 million, Backrooms is shaping up to be a highly profitable venture. In contrast, the latest Star Wars installment, which was deemed a financial success at $165 million, still pales in comparison to Backrooms’ cost-effectiveness.
While Backrooms may not have garnered the same level of acclaim as the low-budget horror hit Obsession, it is still receiving a largely positive reception. This success further highlights the trend of YouTube creators, including Obsession’s Curry Barker, emerging as significant box office draws.
