Hunter x Hunter Sets Release Date for New Volume and Chapters
A new volume of Hunter x Hunter is set to hit shelves in Japan on July 3, much to the excitement of fans of Yoshihiro Togashi’s iconic shonen manga. This release of volume 39 is particularly thrilling as it signals the arrival of a fresh batch of chapters on Shonen Jump.
Since its debut in March 1998, Hunter x Hunter has left a significant mark on multiple generations of manga enthusiasts. However, due to Togashi’s ongoing health struggles, including chronic back pain and limited mobility, he has had to take extended breaks from the series since 2006. Currently, the manga is serialized in “drops” of 10 chapters, which Togashi completes in one go and releases approximately every two years in Weekly Shonen Jump.
Volume 38, which includes chapters 391-400, was released in Japan in September 2024, with the new set of chapters (401-410, to be featured in volume 39) starting to appear in Shonen Jump the following month. This approach seems to be a strategic move to maximize the excitement surrounding both the manga volumes and the individual chapters. Volume 37 was launched in November 2022, following the release of the latest chapters in October.
If this pattern continues, fans can look forward to new chapters of Hunter x Hunter this summer. Togashi has been keeping fans updated through his popular X profile, where he mentioned in April that he had finished inking chapters up to number 430, with publication details expected from the Jump staff soon.
Despite the series experiencing a decline in readership due to its lengthy hiatuses, Hunter x Hunter remains a beloved classic among fans. It stands as one of the greatest shonen manga of the last three decades, and the prospect of its return, coupled with news of the author’s improving health, is always a welcome development.
The Chimera Ant arc is just as mind-bending as fans have claimed—and it offers so much more.
