YouTuber Investigating $200,000 Lego Collection Dispute Sparks ‘Mormon Mafia’ Conspiracy After Fleeing to Mexico Post-Arrest

Reckless Ben, a content creator who recently gained significant attention for his investigation into a missing Lego Star Wars collection valued at $200,000, has reportedly fled to Mexico after being arrested by the American Fork Police Department in Utah. The unusual circumstances surrounding his arrest have sparked a conspiracy theory dubbed the “Mormon Mafia,” with followers speculating that the owners of the Lego aftermarket reseller Bricks & Minifigs, accused of stealing the collection, are receiving support from local law enforcement due to their ties to the Mormon church.

To provide some context, in late May, Reckless Ben released his first video detailing the story of Bryan Mansell, who, along with his father, has been a Lego collector for years, amassing a collection worth $200,000. Due to his father’s declining health, Mansell consigned the collection to the Oregon branch of Bricks & Minifigs. However, after new ownership took over the branch in 2023, the Mansell family claims that the new owners took full control of the valuable collection.

The new owners, Joshua Johnson and Brandon Best, were the focus of Ben’s latest video, where he aimed to have a “good faith” discussion with them, a necessary step before pursuing legal action. While Ben managed to meet with Best, who merely observed him from outside his home, he was unable to connect with Johnson. This was due to police intervention when Ben and his crew were stopped for not halting at a stop sign near Johnson’s residence.

Throughout their investigation, Ben and his crew faced multiple stops by American Fork police. At one point, police searched Ben’s car after receiving a tip about heroin, but found nothing. However, Ben was later arrested when police executed a search warrant at his Airbnb, based on claims that he had stolen the $200,000 Lego collection and was hiding it there. Despite the lack of any Lego found during the search, Ben and several crew members were taken into custody.

The situation took a conspiratorial turn when the original owner of the Lego collection suggested that the police might be biased due to their connections with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, implying that the American Fork police were aiding fellow Mormons Johnson and Best. Ben later claimed to have researched the officers involved and concluded that they were all practicing Mormons.

Following the release of Ben’s video detailing his arrest, American Fork police issued a statement, with Police Chief Cameron Paul explaining that Ben was arrested due to complaints of “stalking” and targeted residential picketing made by Johnson.

In a surprising twist, Reckless Ben has now announced his escape to Mexico after a new arrest warrant was issued against him, which he claims is for unspecified reasons and is a “no bail” warrant, prompting his decision to leave the country.

In a recent video titled “My Response to the Police,” Ben accused the American Fork police of obscuring the real reasons behind his arrest. He referenced audio from the arresting officer’s body cam, which he partially captured on a GoPro set up in his Airbnb. In the audio, an officer allegedly mentions that “Legos” were included in the warrant, contradicting the police’s explanation regarding the stalking allegations.

The American Fork Police Department has yet to respond to Ben’s latest claims.
