Anthropic Moves Forward with Plans for an Initial Public Offering
After months of speculation about which AI company would make it to the IPO finish line first, Anthropic has taken a significant step by filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. This move sets the stage for what promises to be a monumental IPO. Following its recent fundraising round, Anthropic is now regarded as the world’s most valuable startup, boasting a staggering post-money valuation of $965 billion, surpassing its main competitor, OpenAI, which stands at $852 billion.
In a strategic move, Anthropic opted for a confidential submission of its draft registration statement to the SEC. This means that crucial information typically disclosed in such filings—like business risks, executive pay, and financial details—will remain under wraps until later in the process.
This development arrives just ahead of SpaceX’s anticipated IPO on June 12. Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which owns xAI and has recently struck a $15 billion annual deal with Anthropic for access to its data centers, is projected to raise $80 billion in its public offering, potentially making it the largest IPO ever.
Additionally, this filing follows OpenAI’s recent legal victory over Musk, where a judge dismissed all claims due to the statute of limitations.
